Privacy Policy – Bangels Hunt & Scout
Effective October 28, 2026
Bangels Hunt & Scout (the "app") is made by Bangel Customs LLC, Altoona, WI. Questions: [email protected].
Short version: your location stays on your phone. If you are not signed in, your pins, photos and notes stay on your phone too. If you sign in, your pins, stands, trail cams, sightings, notes and photos are backed up to your account so the phone app and the website show the same data (see "Account sync" below). We only get your email address if you sign in. If you are a Pro member and use the AI features, the info that question needs is sent to our AI server to get your answer (see "AI features" below); otherwise nothing else leaves your phone. No ads, no analytics, no crash reporting, and we never sell your data.
1. What we collect
- Location (only if you allow it, only while the app is open). GPS is used on your phone to show where you are, measure distances, guide you to a spot and plan sits. The app does not use location in the background. Your GPS position is not sent to us. A short track of where you've been is kept in temporary browser storage and is cleared when the session ends.
- Email address (only if you sign in to Pro). You type your email, we send a 6-digit code, and our server gives your phone a sign-in token. We keep your email with your Pro subscription status.
- Saved stand plans (only if you tap save while signed in). The 3D stand plan you save (stand and bedding locations, terrain, wind and notes for that plan) is stored on our server under a scrambled (hashed) form of your account email, so you can open it on another device.
- Purchase information. Google Play subscriptions are handled entirely by Google Play. The app asks Google Play on your phone whether you have an active subscription; we do not receive your card number. If you subscribe on our website, Stripe processes the payment and tells us the subscription status for your email.
- Things you create on your phone. Pins, photos, notes, sightings, folders, range cards and settings are saved in the app's storage on your phone (browser local storage and IndexedDB) first. If you are not signed in, they are not uploaded to us.
- Account sync (only while you are signed in). So your phone and the website show the same data, the app copies your own pins and drawings, stands (with facing and best winds), corridor areas, routes, trail cameras, bucks and hit list, deer sightings and camera readings (time, temperature, pressure, moon), notes, pin photo lists and a few display settings to our server, along with compressed copies of your photos (about 1600 pixels on the long side). It is stored under a scrambled (hashed) form of your account email and only that account can read it. Your live GPS position is not synced. Signing out stops syncing and leaves the copy on your phone. Free accounts back up up to 100 photos; Pro backs up all of them.
- Camera and photos. Used only when you tap to add a photo. Photos stay on your phone unless you use Photo AI (below). Reading text off a trail-cam photo is done on your phone.
- AI features (Pro only, only when you use them). Ask the app, Photo AI and Scouting summary run on our Bangels server using Cloudflare Workers AI. Nothing is sent until you tap one of them. When you do, your phone sends only what that request needs:
- Ask the app: your question, the map spot you are looking at, and up to 40 of your nearest pins (name, type, location, facing direction, best winds, and the first 80 characters of the pin's notes), plus a pattern summary for up to 15 trail cameras (camera name, location, facing, photo counts, buck and doe counts, daylight share, busiest hours, named bucks, temperature range and last photo time). Our server looks up the weather forecast for that map spot from Open-Meteo.
- Photo AI: a shrunk copy of each trail-cam photo you choose (about 768 pixels on the long side), plus the names and notes of your named bucks so it can match them. You check every result before anything is saved, and it is saved only on your phone.
- Scouting summary: your trail-camera sighting summary for the last day or week (times, counts, buck or doe, named bucks, temperatures and camera locations).
Our server passes this to the AI to make your answer and sends the answer back to your phone. We do not keep your questions, pins, photos or answers, and they are not used to train AI. The only thing we keep is a count of how many AI requests your account made today, so we can enforce daily limits: 25 questions, 150 photos and 6 summaries per day, reset at midnight Central time. Your GPS position, other pins, full-size photos and anything else on your phone stay on your phone.
We do not collect contacts, messages, health data, or advertising IDs. We do not use analytics, crash reporting, or ad networks. We do not set tracking cookies.
2. How we use it
- To run the app's features: maps, weather and wind, stand and sit planning, and navigation.
- To sign you in, check your Pro subscription, and sync your saved stand plans.
- To answer your AI requests when you use the Pro AI features.
- To answer you if you email us.
We don't sell your data, use it for ads, or build profiles.
AI features (Pro)
Pro includes optional AI features: Ask the app, Photo AI / Auto analyze, Scouting summaries and buck analysis. They run only when you use them.
- What is sent: for a question or summary, the app sends your question plus a short summary of your nearby Pro pins and stands (names, map locations, facing, notes), your trail camera summaries and your buck summaries (names, Hit List folder, sighting times, temperatures, winds, camera locations). For Photo AI, a downsized copy (about 768 px) of each trail camera photo you choose to analyze is sent, with your buck names and antler notes so it can suggest matches.
- Where it goes: our AI server (a Cloudflare Worker) sends it to Cloudflare Workers AI to get the answer. We also look up the weather forecast for the map area from Open-Meteo.
- What is kept: we do not store your questions, photos, pins or answers on our servers. We keep only your sign-in check and a daily count of AI uses per account (to enforce daily limits), which is cleared within a few days. Cloudflare processes the request under its own privacy terms and does not use it to train models.
- On your phone: buck folders, buck profiles, photos and AI results you confirm are saved on your device like the rest of your pins and photos.
- AI answers, buck matches and stand picks are estimates from your camera photos and terrain, not guarantees. Family pins are never sent.
3. Who it's shared with
To show maps, weather and land data, your phone requests content for the area you are viewing (not your account) from the services below. Like any website, they see that map area and your IP address:
- Weather and wind: U.S. National Weather Service (api.weather.gov), Open-Meteo.
- Maps and terrain: our own map server on Cloudflare (OpenStreetMap data), USGS National Map, Esri / ArcGIS Online imagery, AWS Terrain Tiles, MRLC land cover, Wisconsin DNR maps.
- Land and parcels: Wisconsin Statewide Parcels (Wisconsin State Cartographer's Office, hosted on ArcGIS).
- Public land and trails: OpenStreetMap Overpass API.
- Trail-cam text reading: the Tesseract.js library is downloaded from jsDelivr; your photo is not sent.
Service providers that process data for us:
- Cloudflare – hosts the app and our servers (Pro sign-in and saved stand plans), and runs the AI model for the Pro AI features (Cloudflare Workers AI).
- Resend – sends your sign-in code email.
- Google Play – in-app subscriptions. Stripe – website subscriptions.
We may also disclose information if the law requires it.
4. How long we keep it
- Sign-in codes expire within minutes. Sign-in tokens expire on their own.
- AI requests are not stored. Only a daily count per account is kept, and old days are cleared.
- Your email and subscription status are kept while you have a Pro account, until you ask us to delete them.
- Saved stand plans are kept until you delete them in the app or ask us to delete your account.
- Synced data and photos are kept while you have an account. When you delete something in the app, it is removed from your account the next time the app syncs (a small deleted marker is kept so other devices remove it too).
- Data on your phone stays until you delete it, clear the app's data, or uninstall.
- Google Play and Stripe keep their own payment records as the law requires.
5. Deleting your account and data
- Delete saved stand plans: delete them in the app's saved plans list.
- Delete your account: email [email protected] with the subject "Delete my account" from your sign-in email. We delete your email, Pro sign-in records, saved stand plans and synced data and photos within 30 days. Details: hunt.bangelcustoms.com/delete-account.
- Data on your phone: clear the app's data or uninstall.
- Cancel subscriptions in Google Play (Payments & subscriptions) or from your Stripe receipt link. Deleting your account does not cancel a subscription.
6. Children
The app is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you think a child gave us information, email us and we'll delete it.
7. Security
All connections use HTTPS. Stand plans are stored under a hashed email key, and only a valid sign-in token can read them. No system is perfectly secure, but we keep what we store to a minimum.
8. Changes
If we change this policy we'll update it here and change the effective date. Big changes will also be noted in the app.
